December is approaching quickly! With the business of the holiday season coming up, you don’t want to forget to schedule your seasonal checkup and tune-up. In the meantime, here are a few tips and tricks from our experts at Delaware Heating & Air that will help you prepare your home HVAC system for the winter.

  • Listen for Any Sounds- Any irregular banging or rattling noises are good indicators that there might be something wrong with the furnace.

  • Replace Air Filters- Check them frequently and make sure they aren’t dirty and clogging up the system. A good rule of thumb is to keep a few filters on hand. That way, you can change the filter out immediately if necessary.

  • Check Your Ductwork- You want to check for holes or leaks. The ductwork should not be covered in dust. Ductwork covered with a layer of dust can potentially cause the unit to work at a lower efficiency. Not to mention, this can also result in a fire hazard. Make sure nothing is causing obstruction to the ducts to keep you, your family, and your home safe this winter.

  • Inspect Vents and Registers- Don’t forget to do a quick once over on these. Make sure these are not clogged up with pesky dust bunnies, and ensure airflow can pass through easily.

  • Test the Thermostat-  It is good to confirm everything is running correctly to the best of your knowledge on your thermostat. It is also a good idea to check its responsiveness to the settings at different times throughout the day.

  • Clear Away Clutter- You don’t want any clutter near the heating unit. Otherwise, this could be a safety hazard. On top of that, the surface of your furnace should be clean of any dust particles or debris.

  • Schedule Your winter Tune-up & Safety Check- If you haven’t already, we would love to assist you with getting your winter tune-up scheduled.

We want to help you get your home warm and snug for the upcoming months. Running through this checklist will ensure your furnace is running smoothly and efficiently. Keep these tips in mind as you prepare for Ohio’s winter season!
