DISCOVERING MARENGO, OHIO

Marengo, Ohio, is a small village located south of Mount Gilead, Ohio, and is a part of Morrow County. Because of the village’s location to the Columbus Metropolitan Area, it is still viewed as a part of “Central Ohio.” Even though Marengo is about forty minutes from Downtown Columbus, it provides its residents with a light suburban feel without being too far from the city.

The village was platted in 1873, even though a post office within the village limits was established in 1848, permanent residents lived there since the early 1840s. Marengo is home to 342 people spanning less than one square mile, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.

Marengo has one church, The Methodist Episcopal, a bank, several general stores, a well-operated public school, and a post office established in 1847, a year before the village became official. The post office is named in honor of Napoleon’s victory over the Austrians at Marengo in 1800. It has a total of five rural routes; despite the fact that it is a small village located north of Downtown Columbus, it gets an impressive amount of business.
