DISCOVERING NEW ALBANY, OHIO

When New Albany was originally founded, the land was divided into two lots containing 50×100 square feet of land. This land was sold to settlers looking to lay down their roots. The City of New Albany was initially named “Hope;” however, records show the city’s name was changed to “New Albany” in order to accommodate the new settlers moving there from Albany, New York.

The city began to thrive during the mid to late 1990s and started to see rapid growth after expanding the Les Wexner apparel empire, Limited Brand, commonly known as L Brands. On top of that, the construction of Wexner’s mansion began to draw in more residents by the thousands. After the Wexner Mansion was finished, it became the second-largest mansion in central Ohio. Additionally, SR 161 and the access to 161 from I- 270 were redeveloped. Doing so provided New Albany residents with easy access to a freeway in and out of the city.

As of today, New Albany is widely known for The Taste of New Albany, the 10K New Albany Walking Classic, and the yearly celebration of Founders Day.
