DISCOVERING WALDO, OHIO
Waldo is a village located in Waldo Township, Marion County, Ohio. The village of Waldo was platted in 1831 by M.D. Pettibone. Pettibone invested in 900 acres of land strategically placed at the middle of State Route 23 and a turnpike intersection. The village was officially founded and named after Pettibione’s fourth child, Waldo, in 1833. Despite Pettibone owning 900 acres of land in the area, the village of Waldo spans less than a mile. Also, as of the 2010 United States Census, Waldo, Ohio, is home to 338 residents.
The village of Waldo became popular in the late 20th Century because of Groll’s Fine Furniture and G&R Tavern. Unfortunately, Groll’s Fine Furniture closed in 2008 after 113 years of service. However, the G&R Tavern is still open and most famously known for its bologna sandwich. Which the locals call “a taste of heaven.” The sandwich is served on an ordinary bun with a thick slice of bologna with your favorite added toppings and lots of flavor. Waldo is also home to King’s Mill Golf Club, a beautiful course in the countryside for enthusiasts.
