Radnor, Ohio, is an unincorporated community as well as a census-designated place located in Radnor Township, in Delaware County, Ohio. The town was first named “New Baltimore” in 1814. Then, in 1833 when the town was initially laid out, it was renamed “Delhi.”  However, in recent years it was finally named Radnor, after the township in which it resides.

According to history, in 1800, Dr. Samuel Jones, who at the time lived in Pennsylvania, was granted a warrant for 4,000 acres of land as payment for his service in the American Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, Jones died before he could use all of the lands he was given. It was then bought by a Welsh man named David Pugh for about 75 cents an acre.

After David purchased the land, many other Welsh settlers began to flock in. There were three main reasons why Welsh immigrants came to the United States: first, to own their own land. Second, the U.S. allowed individuals to support and worship in the church of their choosing. Thirdly, to get a better education for their children.

Today, the community is mainly known for the Radnor Historical Museum and The Genealogical Center. But, luckily enough, the town’s original welsh heritage can still be identified today, 200 years later.
